Did you know that BOTZ has watched every season of Ink Master, despite having zero tattoos? BOTZ, what does this have to do with Kenyan coffee? We’re glad you asked. New School style tattoos are known for their vibrant, saturated colors, thick outlines, and exaggerated proportions. When we tasted the sample for Kihuyo, we just couldn’t shake it. There were bubbly and enormous tropical fruits, colors like bright yellow, dark red, and lime green, and a huge stone fruit profile with crisp red currant acidity, all outlined in a heavily saturated caramel brown. We promised our Baba we’d never get a tattoo, but if we did, we’d get Kihuyo in the New School Kenyan style (maybe we will make a decal instead and find a spot on our UG’s cooling tray). When brewed just right, we get a profile that morphs from grilled pineapple to raspberry jam to a fizzy limeade Waterloo. Despite the profile leaning more tropical and zesty, please make no mistake about it – the weight of this coffee is unmistakably Kenyan. Think fruits with deep, luscious dimensions. We might just have to make temporary Kihuyo tattoos…stay tuned.
